Peter Hillsman Taylor was a prize-winning American author, known for his stylish novels and short stories of the American South. Born in Tennessee, Taylor's family travelled throughout the South during his youth, and he credits these experiences with inspiring his later writing. Eleanor Ross Taylor was born in North Carolina in 1920. She graduated from the Woman's College (UNCG) in 1940, and married writer Peter Taylor in 1943. Her first book of poetry, Wilderness of ladies (New York, McDowell) was published in 1960 and includes an introduction by Randall Jarrell.
